AMD Announces the Compact Radeon RX 460

AMD has announced yet another computer graphics processing unit (GPU). This is the Radeon RX 460 which comes back to back with the Radeon RX 470 which was revealed on the same day.

This is the last of the Radeon RX series of graphics cards, AMD has revealed. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is a manufacturer of computer graphics technologies and hardware.

Highlights of the Radeon RX 460 GPU

The Radeon RX 460 is built on the  14 nanometer Polaris 11 GPU architecture. This brings the latest gaming technologies to this graphics card.

This GPU is optimized for gaming and more in particular for gaming on the E-Sports genre of video games. The Radeon RX 460 is just barely larger than the PCIe 16x interface making it capable of using in small form factor casings.

Depending on the game, this entry-level graphics card is capable of playing E-Sports games of up to 1080p at over 90 FPS. This graphics card comes with HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.3 HBR with support for HDR and FreeSync.

Support for Vulkan, DirectX 12 and OpenGL 4.5 is available on the device. This piece of hardware is said to be a direct competitor of NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 960M.

AMD Radeon RX 460 comes with 14 compute units and 896 stream processors. There are 48 texture units and 16 ROPs on board. Memory comes in between 2 and 4 GB with Memory clock bandwidth and type at 7 Gbps GDDR5. The Memory Bus Width is 128 bit and the memory bandwidth is 112 GB per second.

HD Game Streaming is also supported on this card with Ultra HD HEVC Encode and Decode. That includes 4K, H.265, 60 FPS encode and decode capabilities. Radeon WattMan replaces Overdrive as the Radeon Software driver controller. You can read more about this new graphics card here.
