Is there a program you commonly open after login in? It could be anything from a web browser, text editor, to an email client. If so, this is the tutorial for you. This is where you will learn how to automatically launch an app when you sign in to your Windows 10 PC.

Windows has a built-in feature to launch programs on startup as well as when you log in to your account. Even though you do not see anything visually running, chances are that there are apps running in the background and can be hinted at via the icons in the system tray.

The good news is that you can add your favorite app to the list of apps that automatically launch after signing in to Windows 10.

Automatically Launch an App When you log in to Windows 10 Using This Process

  • First, we need to get the shortcut for the app that you want to run at startup. Do this by selecting the Start button on your Windows 10 Desktop. Scroll to find the app you want to run on login.
  • Right-click the app, select More and then select Open file location. This will open the location where the shortcut to the app is on your system.
    Note: If you don’t see an option for Open file location, it means the app can’t run at startup. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
  • As you keep the file location open, on your keyboard, press the Windows logo key + R, type shell:startup, then select OK. This will open the Startup folder.
  • Finally, copy and paste the app shortcut from the file location to the Startup folder. Close both folders.
