Time to Test Drive the new Blender 2.80 Beta 3D Suite

The Blender developers are well into creating the future of Blender with the release of Blender 2.80 Beta. This new version comes as a complete overhaul of the popular, free and open-source, cross-platform 3D content creation suite.

The announcement was made after several months of work on the alpha released by the development team coupled with feedback from the wider Blender community.

Blender 2.80 Beta comes with a host of new features. Most notable of these is the new user interface which has been simplified. It also includes a better organized and consistent layout as well as workspaces for users to get well organized.

Another major feature to debut with this version is the brand new EEVEE engine, which is a physically-based real-time renderer. What is so special about EEVEE is that it is the new engine that drives Blender’s real-time viewport.

It also supports animation, volumetrics, subsurface scattering, reflections, refractions, depth of field, camera motion blur, soft, hard shadows, and many more features.

Another worthy mention is added focus for 2D animation through the improvements in the Grease Pencil for the convenience of the 2D artists. This was done by morphing the stroke-based Grease Pencil into a real Blender object.

Other existing features have also got major improvements across the board. These range from Collections and the Dependency graph to the Physics engine, Cycles render engine, the Python API, and more.

it is also worth noting that the Blender Internal render engine has now been deprecated. The focus is now on the aforementioned EEVEE.
