Advanced Package Tool (APT)

Advanced Package Tool more commonly known as APT is the main command-line package manager for Debian Linux systems and its derivatives such as Ubuntu and Mint among others.

Its primarily used to to handle the installation and removal of software. Apt automates the retrieval, configuration and installation of software packages, either from precompiled files or by compiling source code.

APT also includes command-line programs for dealing with packages, which use the library. Three such programs are apt, apt-get and apt-cache.

The primary command is “apt” for example apt update, alternate apt-get update.
