Antivirus software, also known as anti-malware is a computer program used to prevent, detect, and remove malware from computer systems. The name antivirus is historical as they were originally developed to detect and remove computer viruses.
In modern times, capable antivirus software must be able to protect users from a wide variety of attacks such as adware, backdoors, browser hijackers, dialers, fraud tools, keyloggers, malicious browser helper objects (BHOs), malicious LSPs, ransomware, rootkits, spyware, trojan horses, and worms.
Others are infected and malicious URLs, advanced persistent threat (APT), online identity (privacy), online banking attacks, scam and phishing attacks, spam, social engineering techniques, and botnet DDoS attacks.
