The File Transfer Protocol, more commonly known as FTP is a standard communication protocol used for the transfer of files from a server to a client or reverse on a computer network. The protocol uses a clear-text sign-in protocol to authenticate users.
File Transfer Protocol users can have their connection secured with Transport Layer Security (TLS) or Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) using FTP over SSH (FTPS) or replaced with SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP).
