A Kilobyte is a unit of measuring digital data as a multiple of the byte. This unit is the close equivalent of one thousand bytes and is symbolizes as K or KB.
The naming convention is taken from the Base 10 definition where 1 KB = 1,000 bytes. When dealing with computer data and memory the more precise Base 2 definition is usually used where 1 MB = 1,024 bytes.
