Scareware software is a form of malware or malicious computer program that uses social engineering to shock or create the perception of a threat in order to manipulate users into buying unwanted software or registering for unwanted or unneeded services.
An example could be a scam software that dupes users into believing their computer is infected with a virus, then suggests that they download and pay for fake antivirus software to clean their systems.
