SSH File Transfer Protocol, also known as Secure File Transfer Protocol or SFTP is the replacement for the non-secure legacy File Transfer Protocol (FTP). It is an extension of the Secure Shell protocol that is used as a network protocol that provides file access, file transfer, and file management over any reliable data stream. SFTP supports the full security and authentication functionality of SSH.
