Simple Service Discovery Protocol (SSDP)

Posted: January 20, 2022 | by Michael Bright

Simple Service Discovery Protocol, also known as SSDP is a network protocol based on the Internet protocol suite used for advertisement and discovery of network services in small networks such as home networks. Simple Service Discovery Protocol is the basis for Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). Devices that implement this protocol can find and communicate with each other with minimal or no configuration on the part of the owner by plugging them in or turning them on.
