Transport Layer Security (TLS)

Posted: January 17, 2022 | by Michael Bright

Transport Layer Security or TLS, is a cryptographic protocol used to provide secure communications over a computer network. The protocol in use is publicly identified by the use of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) scheme. Its primary use is to encrypt communication between a server and a web client.

Transport Layer Security (TLS) is the successor of the deprecated Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
