Ubuntu is a Linux distribution based on Debian that is officially released in three editions: Desktop, Server, and Core for IoT and embedded systems. It is composed mostly of free and open-source software but contains some proprietary components. Ubuntu is developed by Canonical and was initially released on 20 October 2004.
