Mozilla announced a significant restructuring of Mozilla Corporation with one of the measures being they are laying off around 250 of their employees as well as closing up their Taipei, Taiwan operations.
The tough economic conditions resulting from the global COVID-19 pandemic have significantly impacted revenue resulting in tough measures including a significant reduction in the workforce by approximately 250 people.
Pre-COVID-19 plans for 2020 involved building a better internet by creating new kinds of value in Firefox, investing in innovation, and creating new products, adjusting organization finances to ensure stability over the long term. However, these pre-COVID plans are no longer workable because of the aforementioned reasons.
