Apple Confirms it has Acquired NextVR

Apple confirmed that it has acquired NextVR, the startup that provides sports, music, and entertainment experiences in Virtual Reality.

The company supplies content to several existing VR headsets such as Facebook’s Oculus, PlayStation, HTC, Microsoft, and Lenovo headsets among others.

Within hours of Apple’s confirmation, NextVR’s Android app was pulled from the Google Play Store. The iOS, PlayStation, Oculus, and Steam listings are all still up.

The NextVR website has been updated with a notice that reads…

“NextVR is Heading in a New Direction. Thank you to our partners and fans around the world for the role you played in building this awesome platform for sports, music, and entertainment experiences in Virtual Reality.”

NextVR, which is located in Orange County, California, has partnerships in place with the NBA, Fox Sports, Wimbledon, and other live music and sporting event partners.
