Outlook.com Email Settings for POP, IMAP, and SMTP

A couple of years ago we made a guide to help with live.com email settings and configuration. By then Microsoft had basically picked Outlook.com in favor of the other various email services under its control. In this guide, we will show you the POP, IMAP, and SMTP Outlook.com email settings configurations.

Outlook.com Email Settings

To add your Outlook.com account to another email client that supports POP or IMAP, here are the manual server settings you’ll need.

Outlook.com IMAP Settings

These are the IMAP settings for Outlook.com:

  • Server: outlook.office365.com
  • Port: 993
  • IMAP encryption method: TLS
  • Username: [Your full email address]
  • Password: [The same password you use to sign in to Rackspace webmail]

Outlook.com POP Settings

If you want to use POP to access your email in Outlook.com, you’ll first need to enable POP access. Follow these steps to enable Outlook.com POP access:

  1. Select Settings » View all Outlook settings » Mail » Sync email.
  2. Under POP and IMAP, select Yes under Let devices and apps use POP.
  3. Select Save.

These are the POP settings for Outlook.com:

  • Server: outlook.office365.com
  • Port: 995
  • POP encryption method: TLS
  • Username: [Your full email address]
  • Password: [The same password you use to sign in to Rackspace webmail]

Outlook.com SMTP Settings

These are the SMTP settings for Outlook.com:

  • Server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
  • Port: 587
  • SMTP encryption method: STARTTLS
  • Username: [Your full email address]
  • Password: [The same password you use to sign in to Rackspace webmail]

That’s it, you should now be able to connect to Outlook.com using your favorite email client or mobile device if you follow the instructions above for setting up POP, IMAP, and SMTP for Outlook.com.
