PhpStorm 2020.3 has been released with full support for PHP 8, Tailwind CSS, PHPStan and Psalm, Xdebug 3, collaborative development, and a host of bug fixes and improvements

PhpStorm the advanced PHP IDE by Jetbrains has received a major update that comes with significant changes and upgrades over previous versions.

PhpStorm 2020.3 release comes with full support for PHP 8, static analyzers PHPStan and Psalm, Xdebug 3, Tailwind CSS, collaborative development via Code With Me, and much more.

Highlights of the PhpStorm 2020.3 Release

PHP 8 Language Support

PhpStorm 2020.3 comes with support for all PHP 8 language features which includes the open-source Custom Attributes. This means you get the updated full autocomplete features as well as several checks and validations. The PHP language level can be set right from the status bar allowing you to switch features on and off based on language level preferences.

Psalm and PHPStan Static Analysis Tools Support

Psalm and PHPStan static analyzers are now supported in PhpStorm 2020.3. With these you can get realtime file highlighting of problems in the editor.

Xdebug 3 Update Support and Debugger Improvements

Xdebug 3, the latest update of the PHP debugger extension is now supported out of the box. Xdebug’s default debugging port has changed from 9000 to 9003. That means PhpStorm is now listening on both ports by default.

Code With Me Collaborative Development Tool

PhpStorm 2020.3 now comes bundled with Code With Me. The new tool from JetBrains for collaborative development and pair programming. This tool allows developers to share projects and simultaneously work on it with other developers.

Tailwind CSS

PhpStorm can now autocomplete Tailwind classes in your HTML files. You can also preview the resulting CSS of classes by hovering over them. This also includes completion based on your customizations made in the tailwind.config.js files.
