QEMU 2.6.0 has Been Released for Immediate Availability

The open source tool QEMU 2.6.0 has been announced by the maintainers. This latest release is available for immediate download in the form of source code and binaries.

QEMU is a generic open source machine Emulator and Virtualizer. In general terms, it is a tool that can be used to run operating systems and programs designed for a particular architecture on a different machine hosting a different architecture.

This above is achieved by dynamically translating the instruction-set and architectural differences.

What’s in Store for QEMU 2.6.0

This new version of QEMU 2.6.0 comes with a host of improvements and fixes that touch on several features of the emulator. You can find the details on the changelog here.

Notable changes include the removal of support for Mac OS X 10.5 and below therefore only Intel processors are supported on the Mac platform. OpenGL now depends on libdrm and mesa-libgbm.

Building QEMU 2.6.0 for Windows MinGW is no longer supported as it now requires MinGW-w64 to build both 32 and 64-bit executables.
