The new QEMU 5.1.0 release has been announced for general availability with over 2500 commits from 235 authors. It comes with a host of fixes, improvements, removed, and new features.
QEMU, short for Quick EMUlator is a free and open-source emulator and virtualizer that can perform hardware virtualization. It is a hosted virtual machine monitor that emulates the machine’s processor through dynamic binary translation. It provides a set of different hardware and device models for the machine, enabling it to run a variety of guest operating systems.
Some of the highlights of the new QEMU versions include new architecture support for AVR CPUs, new board support for Arduino Duemilanove, Arduino Mega 2560, Arduino Mega, Arduino UNO, new board support for HiFive1 revB and OpenTitan, new board support for sonorapass-bmc, and lots more.
