Qt 5.7 Alpha Sources Released for Download

The Qt Company Limited has announced the immediate availability of the Qt 5.7 Alpha source code for evaluation use. The release which is now ready for general testing has been in development together with Qt 5.6 and builds upon it. Qt 5.6 is also scheduled for final release within the next few days.

There are several new additions to this new version of the development framework designed for the creation of cross-platform applications and user interfaces for desktop, embedded, and mobile platforms.

What’s new in Qt 5.7 Alpha?

First and foremost this new version of the framework comes with several performance improvements, security and bug fixes. Because C++11 has been enabled for use within the Qt modules, compilers that do not provide C++11 capabilities are no longer supported. This brings a new error in the direction Qt is taking as far as implementing modern C++.

The following new modules have been added to the framework:

Qt 3D, Qt Quick Controls 2 which is a new light-weight set of embedded and mobile orientation controls. Qt Serial Bus also makes its debut here. Qt Charts is now available under GPLv3 license in addition to the commercial version. Qt Data Visualization also follows on in the footsteps of Qt Charts. Other modules released under GPLv3 here are Qt Virtual Keyboard, Qt Quick 2D Renderer and Qt Purchasing.

There are quite a number of modules which have also received a series of facelifts. These modules include Qt Core, Qt GUI, Qt Widgets, Qt WebEngine, Qt QML, Qt Canvas 3D, Qt NFC, Qt Multimedia, Qt Bluetooth and Qt Quick. Others improvements are featured in Embedded, Desktop and Mobile platforms.

For more information on these, you can check out the New Features Page here.

With Qt 5.7 Alpha Qt Script has been deprecated while Qt Enginio is no longer part of the release. Please head on over to the download page to get a copy of this cross-platform development framework.
