Qt 5.8.0 Release Candidate is Now Available

The Qt 5.8.0 Release Candidate has been released for general availability ahead of the final release in January 2017. This version has undergone testing and improvements resulting in bug fixes enhancements and several new features.

Qt is a framework of libraries and tools based on C++ and maintained by the Qt Company. Developers use Qt to development of interactive and cross-platform applications and devices. Qt is cross-platform and comes in either a commercial license or an open source license.

Highlights of Qt 5.8.0 Release Candidate

There is a host of new features in this new release of Qt including updates in the Qt Core, Qt GUI and Qt Quick modules. There are new QML types in the Qt Quick Controls 2 module among other updates. Qt WebEngine is now based on Chromium 53. Candlestick chart has been added to Qt Charts.

Qt 3D has gotten improved performance, bug fixes and improved test coverage. There is also enhanced multi-screen capabilities and configurability as well as added support for 90 or 180 degrees rotation of software-rendered content in Embedded platforms.

Qt 5.8 comes with the new Configurability (Qt Lite project) version which allows it to be customized for minimalist hardware setups in mobile or Desktop making a lightweight build possible.

New modules have been introduced including Qt Wayland Compositor, Qt SCXML and Qt Serial Bus. New Platforms supported now include Apple tvOS and Apple watchOS both of which are technology previews. Other Technology Preview modules include Qt Gamepad, Qt Speech for text to speech. Qt Network Authentication with support for OAuth 1 and 2 is now available too.

Qt Script has now been deprecated while Qt Quick 2D Renderer has been removed completely. You can visit the release page to get the details of all the new feature that come with this new version release.

Bugs can are encouraged to be reported in the bug tracker available here. For those with an existing maintenance tool installed, you can download the new Qt 5.8.0 Release Candidate directly. Without that you can go to the official download page to get it. Commercial users have the option of updating the framework using the Qt Account Portal.
