Qt 6.0 Feature Freeze Milestone is Right on Schedule

It is official, the Qt 6.0 feature freeze milestone has been reached edging ever so close to the planned December 2010 release date.

In an announcement by the developers, the work on the next major version of Qt has reached its next significant milestone. This milestone has seen all the planned functionality for Qt 6.0 set in place.

Other upcoming significant milestones for this release are as follows:

  • September 2020: Alpha release
  • October 2020: Beta phase starts, multiple beta snapshot releases
  • November 2020: Release Candidate
  • December 2020: Qt 6.0.0 Release

The developers and the opensource community here on throughout the following months will be focused on polishing and tuning the release as well as fixing bugs.

Qt 6.0 and higher is expected to take Qt users into the new decade in its future strategy which can be found in this post by Lars Knoll, Chief Technology Officer.

Qt 6.0 supports the majority of all desktop, mobile, and embedded platforms and comes with a C++17 or higher requirement. Support for real-time operating systems is planned on a technology preview level.

As for testing this Qt 6.0 feature freeze snapshots, they are available via the Qt online installer under the ‘Preview’ category, which includes the source code.
