Windows 10 Out-of-Band Update for Remote Desktop Flaw Available

Windows 10 gets an out-of-band update to fix some issues with Remote Desktop. Microsoft is rolling out an update that fixes an issue in Remote Desktop on Windows 10 systems. Being an out-of-band update means that it is not part of Microsoft’s regular update schedule.

With this issue, Microsoft opted not to wait for the January 2022 Patch Tuesday but to issue the update KB5010196 available for OS Build 17763.2369.

KB5010196 is a non-security update but includes quality improvements. Basically, it addresses a known issue that might prevent users from using Remote Desktop to reach a server. In some circumstances, the server might stop responding. The screen might also appear black, and general performance and signing in might be slow.

Seeing that the update is not available from the regular release channels, users can get this update from the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

For more information, visit the announce page for the update.
