Secure Sockets Layer, better known as SSL is an encryption Internet security protocol first developed by Netscape in 1995 for the purpose of establishing secure links between servers and clients in Internet communications. Internet connections using this protocol can be identified by the Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS)<\/a> scheme rather than Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)<\/a>.
