MySQL is a popular cross-platform, open-source relational database management system (RDBMS). The name of this database is derived from a combination of “My”, the name of co-founder Michael Widenius’s daughter, and “SQL”, the abbreviation for Structured Query Language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MySQL was initially released on 23 May 1995 by a Swedish company, MySQL AB, founded by Swedes David Axmark, Allan Larsson, and Finland Swede Michael “Monty” Widenius. Development work was originally done by Michael Widenius and David Axmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
