GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free and open-source cross-platform image editor, free-form drawing, and image file format convertor available for GNU\/Linux, macOS, Windows, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris, AmigaOS 4 and more operating systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The software which is written in C programming language is available in 82 languages. It is maintained by the GIMP Development Team and released under the GPL-3.0-or-later license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Spencer Kimball and Peter Mattis began developing GIMP, originally named General Image Manipulation Program as a semester-long project at the University of California, Berkeley back in 1995.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initial public release of this image editor came in 1996. In 1997 after the duo met with Richard Stallman of the GNU Project, the application became part of the GNU software collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
