The Khronos Group open consortium of leading hardware and software companies has announced the immediate availability of the Vulkan 1.0.

This is the first specification of this toolkit that provides high-efficiency, cross-platform access to graphics and computes on modern GPUs. It is available on Microsoft Windows 7 and above, Linux, SteamOS, Tizen and Android

OpenGL and OpenGL ES 3D APIs have been the standards for the past few decades. Unlike its predecessors, Vulkan provides applications direct control over GPU acceleration.

This announcement makes the SDKs available immediately for developers to begin creating Vulkan applications and engines for high-performance computing, 3D and VR.

Vulkan is a royalty-free, open standard API specification and can be gotten together with more information from the official Khronos website.

Ref:

https://github.com/KhronosGroup The Khronos Group open consortium of leading hardware and software companies has announced the immediate availability of the Vulkan 1.0.
