The Qt Creator 4.2 release has been announced for general availability. This version comes with a host of bug fixes, improvements and bug fixes.

Qt Creator is a free and open source C++ Integrated Development Environment (IDE) designed for developing applications using the Qt Framework. This framework has a set of library and tools that are used to develop applications in C++, JavaScript, and QML. It is also popular to develop in Python to a lesser extent.

It is part of the Qt 5.7.1 update released concurrently with this version.

The new projects mode now makes changes in the UI how projects are selected from the settings tree and a set of drop downs rather than nested tabs. This promises to give better experience when dealing with projects.

There are new features in the Qt Quick Designer. Even though changes appear across the board, most significant changes are in the managing the imports and property definitions areas.

There are now several fixes and improvements with CMake support which now includes the server-mode feature. The QML profiler now supports views of memory usage and allocations as flame graphs.

This version now supplements the Qt SCXML module by offering an experimental graphical editor for SCXML. Qt SCXML is expected to be full-fledged in Qt 5.8. It is a new module in Qt that allows you to create state machines from State Chart XML and embed them into Qt C++ and Qt Quick applications.

For those developers using the online installer, Qt Creator 4.2 can be updated using the maintenance tool. Offline packages are also available for commercial users via the Qt Account portal and at the official download page for the open-source users.
