The report states that sales of video games in the US hit a record of $10.86 billion between January and March of this year. This marks a 9% increase over a year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All signs point to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is according to a post made by the NPD Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A record first quarter driven by digital content spend across console, mobile and PC gaming platforms”<\/em> as stated in the post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best-performing titles of the first quarter include games<\/a> such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, DOOM Eternal, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Fortnite, Grand Theft Auto V, Minecraft, MLB The Show 20 and NBA 2K20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was also strong growth in sales of Nintendo Switch<\/a> hardware, as was the sales of video game accessories, including gamepads, headsets, cases, and other peripherals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With more games coming out this year such as the long-awaited but controversial The last of Us 2, and the release of the next-generation consoles, PlayStation 5<\/a> and Xbox Series X<\/a>, further growth is expected in the video game industry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
