Intel recently announced their first dedicated graphics cards, Iris Xe (DG1) discrete graphics cards for Desktop OEM systems developed with partners such as Asus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The graphics chip dubbed “DG1” where showcased while in development at CES 2020. October 2020 then saw the first laptops with the Iris Xe Max graphics chips by Acer, Asus, and Dell hitting the markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This new announcement sees the dedicated Xe graphics cards<\/a> for desktops hitting the markets. Customers can’t buy this new GPU to integrate into their own rigs. Intel is only shipping the chip out to manufacturers for pre-built PCs with a target market of small, medium businesses, and mainstream users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Based on Tiger Lake’s integrated GPU, the initial Iris Xe desktop graphics cards feature 80 execution units, 4GB of onboard LPDDR4x memory, and a 30 Watt TDP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is not a high-performance desktop graphics therefore it is targeting the mass market of high-volume, value-desktop market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Intel announced that it is also working on a gamer-focused discrete GPU called Xe-HPG. This GPU will pack a bigger punch and is expected to support hardware-accelerated ray tracing<\/a> and GDDR6 memory when it launches sometime this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pricing and availability details are yet to be revealed.
