As Linux Mint 21.2 “Victoria” is set to be releases in June 2023, this announcement comes with a round-up of what to expect from this upcoming Linux distro.
The Linux Mint developers revealed the details on the next major release of their Ubuntu-based distribution, Linux Mint 21.2 codenamed “Victoria”, The release date is set for this summer at the end of June, 2023. This release comes with a host new features and improvements.
First off, Linux Mint 21.2 “Victoria” will continue to support the Cinnamon, Xfce, and MATE desktop environments with the the Xfce edition based on the latest Xfce 4.18 desktop environment.
There are new login screen improvements with support for multiple keyboard layouts with system layouts prioritized and others listed in a sub-menu. There is a slick greeter, which controls the login screen. There is improved touch support with a configurable on-screen keyboard. The arrow keys can be used to edit the password being typed and a revealer icon appears when the password is clicked or edited. This revealer can also be used to toggle the visibility of the password.
Pix has been rebased on gThumb 3.12.2. The new gThumb UI was adopted. It uses headerbars and buttons instead of toolbars and menubars. This rebase brings 168 new features or user visible changes. A comprehesive list can be found here.
Full support for HEIF/AVIF images and AI documents as well as Adobe Illustrator documents will also be properly supported by Xreader, the Document Viewer.
